Panama maps for... Hiking & Exploring

A smattering of maps only.   Unfortunately, there exist hardly any good trail maps for Panama.  However, by just going to the National Parks and looking at the info at the site (usually on a well-done wooden 'Guide to park trails' at the entrance), or asking the resident rangers, you can easily find some great trails to explore.

• Barro Colorado maps
  An island within the Panama Canal, watched over and used by the Smithsonian Institute for decades for nature studies.  First map shows location of island in the Panama Canal; Second map shows detail of island itself. Maps by the Smithsonian Tropical Research institute.

• "Pipeline Road"
  A great trail easily accessible from Panama City (about a 20 minute drive).   Get directions to go to the "Canopy Tower" hotel; at the base of the hill up to the hotel is a small grass parking space and the beginning of the famous pipeline road trail.   Birding records have been set here and more often than not, one sees monkeys.
